Parenchymal musculature organized in three layers, with loose fibres: a dorsal decussate layer with oblique fibres, a supra-intestinal transverse layer and a sub-intestinal transverse layer. The thickness of the parenchymal musculature relative to body height at the pre-pharyngeal region is ~3%.
