This Nearctic species is characterized by a yellow postpedicel, pedicel and scape, a unique character in the genus, as well as its male terminalia with truncate apical projections and lateral protrusions on the cercus as well as a branched pregonite. Other similar Nearctic species are

Palpus yellow, with black setulae apically.

This species is named after Terry Wheeler of McGill University, who had a significant influence on the senior authors academic life. He was one of the primary supervisors for the senior author up until his death in the summer of 2017.
