in California, Santa Clara County, Palo Alto (Ferris 1918) and later recorded from several other
<collectingCountry id="F33360A4FFA7FFB4227DB9B41D3FFC5D" box="[1309,1359,983,1007]" name="United States of America" pageId="1" pageNumber="540">U.S.</collectingCountry>
states (McKenzie 1967); currently it is almost cosmopolitan, having been recorded from the Nearctic, Neotropical, Palaearctic, Afrotropical, Oriental and Australasian Regions (García
<emphasis id="B950FC26FFA7FFB424CABE7C1B95FB84" box="[938,997,1054,1078]" italics="true" pageId="1" pageNumber="540">et al.</emphasis>
2016). It is highly polyphagous, most commonly found on
<taxonomicName id="4C245BB7FFA7FFB426E1BE211A72FBE9" box="[385,514,1090,1115]" class="Magnoliopsida" family="Solanaceae" kingdom="Plantae" order="Solanales" pageId="1" pageNumber="540" phylum="Tracheophyta" rank="family">Solanaceae</taxonomicName>
, and can cause significant damage to cultivated sweet pepper (

in the Mediterranean Region was in Sicily (Mazzeo

1999); later it was recorded from

,

2008; Beltrà &amp; Soto 2011). Lloyd (1952) showed that

is a parthenogenetic, thelyotokous species, (confirmed by Ben-Dov 2005) and McKenzie (1967) said it is viviparous; however, at that time workers did not distinguish between viviparity and ovoviviparity. True viviparity is rare in insects so we consider
