Type locality. Quail Island , Lyttelton , New Zealand . Variation. Not significant. Diagnosis. Gnathopod 1 propodus subtriangular with well-developed posterodistal lobe. Gnathopod 2 propodus palm with midpalmar sinus. Pereopod 7 sexually dimorphic, merus broad (subtriangular), carpus expanded (subrectangular). Epimeron 3 posterior margin minutely serrate, posterior corner subquadrate. Uropod 2 endopod with marginal robust setae in one row. Size. 11 to 23 mm . Remarks. Hurley (1957) placed O. serrulata as a junior synonym of Orchestia chiliensis Milne Edwards, 1840 , however the species was reinstated by Serejo & Lowry, 2008 which re-established T. serrulata as endemic to New Zealand , with O. chiliensis distribution again restricted to the South American coastline. The material from the Discovery Expedition identified by Alfred O. Walker was re-examined here in and identified as Orchestia aucklandiae . Habitat. S upralittoral. Distribution. New Zealand .
