HABITAT. Semideserts with scattered vegetation which the species uses as a refuge and to observe the surroundings.
REMARKS. Formerly treated as a subspecies of
T. agilis
, but the latest phylogenetic study indicates that these two are not even closely related (i.e. sister) taxa (
Pyron
et al.
2013
). The nominotypical subspecies occurs W of the Caspian Sea in isolation from the main distribution range in Central Asia, where the subspecies
T. s. aralensis
(Lichtenstein) occurs. Based on the distribution of both subspecies the Iranian populations should be assigned to the latter.
