Taxonomy:
The
holotype
(and only known specimen) of
Xyleborus tomentosus
Eggers
(SMNH) from
Myanmar
has been compared with specimens in my collection from
Brunei
,
Thailand
and
Vietnam
, which had previously been compared with the
holotype
of
Hadrodemius globus
(NHML). They are clearly conspecific. I have not examined
types
of
Xyleborus ursus
and
X.ursus fuscus
, but specimens identified by Schedl have been examined, and their synonymy with
H.globus
is undoubtedly correct. The male was described by
Schedl (1951, as
X.fuscus
)
.
Distribution:
Brunei
,
India
(Kerala),
Indonesia
(Java, Kalimantan, Sumatra),
Malaysia
,
Myanmar
,
Papua New Guinea
(including Bougainville I.),
Philippines
, Solomon Is.,
Taiwan
,
Thailand
,
Vietnam
.
New Records:
VIETNAM
, Quang Nam prov., NE Da Nang, c.

,

(A.R.Gillogly) (1) (RAB).
Biology:
Recorded from at least 13 families and 20 genera of angiosperm trees. The biology of the species is described by
Browne (1961)
and
Kalshoven (1959)
.
