Diagnosis.
A medium-sized
Dodomeira
(
3.50–4.30 mm
) belonging to the
pfisteri
group with slender body (length/width ratio: 1.69–1.70) and cylindrical elytra shape. Within the species group, it is recognisable by transverse rostrum with length/width ratio 0.65, elytral declivity with recumbent-raised (15°–40°) clavatespatulate, elongate setae, and protibia with two acute spines on inner edge. Sizes: pronotum (length:
0.75–0.90 mm

These specimens, considered provisionally as belonging to this species, differ from

for size and enlarged-clavate, raised setae.
Holotype
.
Female. Total length:
3.50 mm
. Slender body with elytra elongate-cylindrical. Dorsal vestiture with imbricate and brown scales with metallic sheen.
Rostrum covered by brown scales, very transverse (length/width ratio 0.65), sub-parallel. Pterygia protruding from the rostrum. Epistome absent. Mesorostrum slightly concave, anteriorly with twelve thin, curved, short and semi-erect setae. Vertex wide and convex (vertex width / mesorostrum width: ratio 1.95) with several, elongate, widened-clavate, raised-semierect setae. Interocular space without fovea.
Lateral, very large, convex eyes slightly protruding from outline of head. Antenna quite robust and short with recumbent, golden, widened setae. Antenna with ratio 0.69 (scape length:
0.65 mm

0.95 mm
). Scape clubbed, slightly more robust than funicle, curved at the middle and progressively thickening towards apex. Funicle segments including club, relative lengths as follows: 10.5.3.3.3.3.3.15; first six segments with widened setae silvery; segments 4–7 pearl-shaped. Club at least twice wider than funicle, short, fusiform, compact with suture between first and second segment visible.
Pronotum clothed with brown scales, transverse (length:

, ratio: 0.88), sub-conical, sinuate, with maximum width at the basal third, less wide at base of its anterior margin, with elongate, widened, golden recumbent-raised setae. Punctation usually covered by scales. Scutellum not visible.
Elytra (length:

, ratio: 1.69), cylindrical, covered by brown scales, with flat suture, wider at the middle. Elytral declivity with recumbent-raised (15°–40°) clavate-spatulate, elongate setae. Punctation of striae, shallow, rather catenulate and impressed. Interstriae flat, with widened-clavate, elongate, golden, recumbent-raised setae. Humeri short and rounded.
Legs quite short and robust clothed by brown scales and rather short, widened golden setae. Femora little clubbed. Protibia with two acute spines on inner edge, with little mucro on inner apical angle. Protibia quite sinuous on inner edge, metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view.
Tarsal segment 1 short, conical; segment 2 short and transverse; segment 3 shallowly bilobed; all segments with thin golden setae. Onychium curved, robust and short. Claws very short and fused at base.

Etymology.
Named from Italian word “zingaro”=gipsy (feminine
zingara
). In addition, the Natural Reserve of “Zingaro” is a mediterranean wilderness maquis in the western

Ecology and Phenology.
Collected

by Berlese and Winkler extractors from soil obtained sifting the leaf litter, of an olive grove in January and October, at sea level.
Collected

“other material” by Berlese and Winkler extractors from soil obtained sifting the leaf litter on calcareous soil, of a slope garrigue in winter, at 600–700 meters. Investigations in the spring-summer months gave negative results suggesting that
D. zingara
are absent during this time.

Probably parthenogenetic. Species known from fourty-seven females.
