Goodman et al. (1998) recognized two subfamilies, Lorinae and Perodicticinae, for the Asian and African genera respectively, and included Galagoninae as a third subfamily. McKenna and Bell (1997) included Galagoninae and Lorinae as subfamilies, with Lorini ( Arctocebus and Loris ) and Nycticebini ( Nycticebus and Perodicticus ) as tribes; but their tribes are not monophyletic ( Groves, 2001 c ).
