There are two recognized subspecies, including the nominal one ( Beinhundner 2017b ). The species Phonotaenia hassoni ( Antoine & Legrand, 2005 ) mimics Phonotaenia scalaris scalaris Gory & Percheron, 1833 for which can be mistaken ( Antoine & Legrand 2005 ). Some ecological remarks were provided for SLN by Malec (2015) .
