Azaleothrips siamensis
Okajima.
Identified here from the original description and key to species (Okajima and Masumoto 2014), this thrips was found on dead branches in considerable numbers on
Hawaii
. It was collected in
July 2016
from recently felled trees at
USDA
PBARC
in
Hilo
, in
lower Puna
, and also in the forest at
Kipuka Ki
,
Hawaii
Volcanoes National Park
. These specimens have the color, chaetotaxy, and sculpture character states of
siamensis
(
Fig. 8
), although the mouth cone appears to be rather shorter in not extending across the mesosternum.
