As this is possibly the only species of the M. ruficollis Meigen, 1818 group to occur in Sardinia , females of this group are placed here. The Sicilian record by Chandler (2004a) refers to 1 ♂ and 1 ♀ from Nebradi, 8 km north-west of Cesaro (Messina province), 1300 m , 7.v.1999 , leg. P. Gatt (private collection).
