Ecology:— Fairly common; terrestrial in humid forests, especially along forest edges, trails, ditches, and in pastures; to 1050 m . Notes:— Easily confused with C. hispidula , but distinguished by petioles and rachises usually purplish brown; reduced proximal pinnae 2–6 pairs; costae abaxially with predominately short hairs uniform in length, mostly 0.1–0.2 mm long.
