Description.
Body length
1.58 mm
, maximum width at posterior corners of elytra
0.80 mm
. Head length
0.26 mm
, ratio: length / maximum width 0.96, vertexal foveae distant, close to lateral margins of head. Antennae short, scapes, pedicels, and antennomeres III very short, pedicels 1.4 times as wide as antennomeres III, both subglobular, terminal antennomeres cylindrical, 1.95 times as long as wide and 4.80 times as long as antennomeres III. Pronotum slightly wider than long, median length
0.29 mm
, maximum width
0.44 mm
, ratio: pronotal length / maximum width 0.66, 1.12 times as long as head, pronotum widest at posterior corners, 1.65 times as wide as long, posterior corners sharp, pronotal width strongly reduced behind corners, antebasal fovea large and shallow, elongate median sulcus wide, shallow, not reaching anterior margin, lateral foveae small, deep, located close to posterior corners of pronotum. Elytra wider than long; maximum length of each elytron
0.58 mm
, maximum width across elytra
0.83 mm
, with 2–3 shallow basal foveae. Abdomen short, slightly narrower than elytra, maximum width
0.73 mm
. Mesotibiae with small preapical spurs.
Aedeagus (
Figs. 8–11
) about
0.27 mm
long, about twice as long as wide, apical lobe 1.2 times as long as basal bulb, slightly curved laterally.
Sexual dimorphism.
Females unknown.
Microhabitat and collecting method.
The only specimen was sifted from very dry leaf litter and plant residues under
Pandanus
sp. in the mountain forest of Ambohitantely Special Reserve in Central
Madagascar
. Sifted material was subsequently extracted using a Winkler apparatus.
Etylomogy:
The specific name
robustus
refers to the stout shape of the body of the new species.
Distribution.
Central
