André (2005) synonymized Lorryia Oudemans and Raphitydeus Thor with Brachytydeus Thor and designated Tydeus cruciatus Koch as its type species, except for Lorryia superba Oudemans , which he retained in the genus Lorryia based on the presence of a single claw on the leg tarsi. The species currently assigned to the genus Lorryia by Kaźmierski (1989b , 1998b ) display the same chaetotaxy as T. cruciatus . Presently, more than 200 species are known in this genus. The genus was characterized by having opisthosoma with 10 pairs of setae ( ps included); leg setal counts (with solenidia in parentheses): Leg I: 8 (1ω)-3-3-3-1; Leg II: 6(1ω)-2-2-3-0; Leg III: 5- 2-1-2-1; Leg IV: 5-2-1-1-0.
