Resolving taxonomic issues of cicadas (Hemiptera: Cicadidae) including new combinations, new synonymies, and revised status, with updates on the diversity of the Brazilian cicada fauna and new records for four South American countries Author Sanborn, Allen F. text Zootaxa 2023 2023-07-20 5318 3 339 362 http://dx.doi.org/10.11646/zootaxa.5318.3.2 journal article 57485 10.11646/zootaxa.5318.3.2 39e59e73-ea57-4c57-965f-06bd576d5739 1175-5326 8166896 D7216A8E-B6C2-4A34-9EC6-CACC3D9951E3 Hemisciera maculipennis ( de Laporte, 1832 ) new record Cicada maculipennis de Laporte 1832: 412 . ( French Guiana and Brazil ) Cicada versicolor Brullé 1835 (in Audouin & Brullé): Plate v, Fig. 1 . Cicada sumptuosa Blanchard 1840: 165 . Fidicina floslofia Walker 1858b: 15 . (Ega, Brazil ) REMARKS. The species was removed from the Bolivian cicada fauna in Sanborn (2019a) as no specimens could be attributed to Bolivia in the literature and no specimens were located from Bolivia . Metcalf (1963a) mistakenly included Argentina and Bolivia in the range of the species based on a misinterpretation of Delétang (1923) . Since that time, I have received images from Mateo Vargas Rojas (Universidad Autónoma Gabriel René Moreno) of a male collected at Santa Cruz de la Sierra , Santa Cruz , Bolivia (specimen deposited in the UAGRM entomology laboratory). The addition brings the known cicada diversity of Bolivia to 90 species ( Sanborn 2019a ; 2019c ; 2020a ; Sanborn et al . 2020 ). DISTRIBUTION. The species has been reported previously from Brazil , Ecuador , French Guiana , Panama , and Peru ( Metcalf 1963a ; Sanborn 2011b ; 2013 ; 2018 ; 2020a ). MATERIAL EXAMINED fOR NEW RECORD. “Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Santa Cruz , Bolivia ”, one male (deposited in the Universidad Autónoma Gabriel René Moreno entomology laboratory collection) .
