Parazaona patagonicus

(cat.): misidentification.
JUJUY: “Moreno, Puna de Jujuy (coll. Erland Nordenskiöld. Mus. Stockholm)” (
Tullgren 1908
); “Puna de Jujuy” (Ceballos & Rosso de
Ferradás 2008a
); SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO: Añatuya, adhering to
Triatoma platensis
Neiva, 1913
(
Hemiptera

) inside a bird nest (probably
Myiopsitta monachus cotorra
), pseudoscorpion identified by Feio at MNRJ (
Mazza 1943
), “Añatinga” (
erratum pro
Añatuya) (
Feio 1945
; Ceballos & Rosso de
Ferradás 2008a
); CHACO (
Mello-Leitão 1939b
); BUENOS AIRES: Lezama, M. Birabén leg. (
Mello-Leitão 1939a
; Ceballos & Rosso de
Ferradás 2008a
).
Note 1.
Mello-Leitão (1939a)
erroneously interpreted “Puna de Jujuy, Moreno,
Argentina
” as referring to Lago Moreno (Chubut). Moreno appears on old maps of Jujuy and Salta (
circa
1910), but in some recent maps it is named “El Moreno”. This locality is situated at the west of Tumbaya, in an area that belongs to the Puna biogeographical province in the southwestern portion of Jujuy. Ceballos & Rosso de
Ferradás (2008a)
give “Puna de Jujuy” as the
type
locality (omitting Moreno), and also cite the species from Lago Moreno. The latter locality is excluded here from the distribution of
Parazaona morenensis
, given that it is based on the erroneous interpretation by
Mello-Leitão (1939a)
.
Note 2.
Probably the specimens sent by Mazza can be found in MNRJ, where Feio was working.
