Remarks.
No specimens referable to this species were available for this study.
Metacrangon monodon
appears closest to
M. nipponensis
in the possession of only one middorsal tooth and distinct submedian teeth on the carapace, although
Birshtein & Vinogradov (1951)
compared this species with
M. variabilis
(as
Sclerocrangon
).
Metacrangon monodon
seems to differ from
M. nipponensis
in having a distinct middorsal carina on the second to fourth abdominal somites and the more strongly concave lateral margin of the antennal scale (
Birshtein & Vinogradov 1951
). Consequently, this taxon is regarded as a valid species for the time being.
