Diagnosis.
Exallopyga guatemalensis
(Cameron)
is easily distinguished from other species in the genus based on the following combination of characters: dark purple bands on dorsum of meso- and metasoma (absent in
E. difficilis
); female S3 green or blue (black or non-metallic dark brown in
E. jenseni
); lateral ocelli partially encircled by small carina (absent in
E. difficilis
); females with emarginate T3 distal rim (with distinct medial notch in
E. jenseni
); and the relatively large-sized body, with specimens
7–10 mm
long (
E. difficilis
:
5–7 mm
; and
E. jenseni
:
5 mm
). Additionally, according to
French (1985)
, the spinose lobe of aedeagus in
E. guatemalensis
is enlarged, reaching almost halfway to the tip of the aedeagus (reaching at most about one third the distance in
E. difficilis
and
E. jenseni
; see his
Figures 7–9
).

Remarks.
This is the most widely distributed species in the genus, ranging from
Guatemala
to southern South America. We herein expand its geographical distribution by including new records from the following Brazilian states: Amapá, Amazonas, Bahia, Distrito Federal, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, and Paraíba (
Fig. 5
).
Exallopyga difficilis
(Spinola)
occurs in
Chile
through the Andes, reaching southwest
Argentina
; and
E. jenseni
(du Buysson)
is only known from northern
Argentina
to southern
Bolivia
(
French 1985
).
