Description Larva. Length: 6.6 to 11.0 mm (n=71). Head capsule greenish brown, with anterior margin of frontoclypeal apotome darker, and pale (yellowish) zones around stemmata, with transverse band on posterior region of parietal apotomes, and lateral longitudinal bands joining these 2 areas ( Fig. 19 ). Anterior margin of frontoclypeal apotome symmetrical; median region lightly produced and crenulate, with 2 shallow lateral notches continued by small lateral lobes ( Fig. 19 ); median depression marked. Parietal apotomes with pale muscle scars, distributed characteristically as in Figs. 19–20 . Lateral muscle scars similar to those of S. ( S. ) annulicornis . With posterior ventral apotome. Distribution of muscle scars on pro, meso and metanota as in Fig. 21 . Poststernal sclerites of prosternum lacking. Mesosternum with 2 posterolateral subtriangular sclerites. Abdominal sternum VIII with 2 triangular sclerites bearing setae. Pupa. Length: 6.7 to 6.9 mm (n=3). Labrum with anterior margin rounded, with row of long setae on anterior region, and with 4 to 5 long setae on lateral lobes ( Fig. 22 ). Mandibles similar to those of S. ( S. ) annulicornis . Abdominal plates IIa, IIIa, IIIp, IVa and Va wider than long, others longer than wide. Anterior plates of segments II to VIII with large teeth and secondary small teeth on posterior margin; plate IIIp with large teeth along anterior margin, without secondary teeth; posterior border of plate IVp directed forward, with large marginal teeth ( Fig. 23 ). FIGURES 14–18. Smicridea ( Rhyacophylax ) dithyra . Larva. Head capsule: (14) dorsal view, (15) ventral view. Thoracic nota: (16) dorsolateral view. Pupa. (17) labrum dorsal view, (18) dorsal abdominal plates. Biology The larvae and pupae were collected on rocks in fast running waters. The larvae build their shelters and nets attached to stones in fast flowing riffle areas.
