Bequia, Lesser Antilles (“Blake” stn 236: 12°52’30”N , 61°36’002”W). Distributional range . Western Atlantic, from New Jersey to Bequia, Lesser Antilles; Eastern Atlantic, off Morocco ; Indo-West Pacific from east Africa to Japan , Indonesia , Australia and New Zealand ( Macpherson 2007 ; Ahyong 2007). Eastern Pacific, Galapagos and Juan Fernandez Islands, Chile ( Haig 1955 ). From Acapulco, Mexico up to Galapagos Islands ( Wicksten 1989 ). Off Antofagasta, Chile (this report). Bathymetric range . 1775–2492 m . New record . MUAP (CD)-0311, 1 ovigerous female cl 44.91 mm , stn AGT-4, off Antofagasta ( 22°48.07’S , 70°42.29’W , 1775 m ), “ PUCK ” expedition, RV “Sonne", April–May 2001 . Description . Rostrum short, directed upwards as strong spine ( Fig. 2 b), overreaching distal part of antennal peduncle, flanked by 2 lateral spines. Carapace subpentagonal densely covered by simple and scale-like tubercles; gastric region armed with strong, long spine of almost half postorbital carapace length; 2 other minor spines on anterior epigastric region ( Fig. 2 a); antennal spines absent; anterolateral spines strong, reaching base of cornea. Cheliped short, length almost as long as postorbital carapace length, palm slightly shorter than fixed fingers, covered by scale-like tubercles ( Fig. 2 c) as also carpus ( Fig. 2 d). Pereiopods as long as one and one-half times carapace length, surface covered by scale-like tubercles, dactyl armed ventrally by row of more than 15 spines ( Fig 2 e). Remarks . The specimen collected by the “PUCK” expedition without doubt belongs to this species, because G. rostrata is easily distinguishable from all other species of the genus ( Macpherson 2007 ). The report of G. rostrata from Juan Fernandez archipelago is erroneous (see above as G. bellis ). Khodkina (1975) reported G. rostrata from stn 220, 254 from shores of north of Chile and from stn 1968. Thus, this constitutes a new record to Chile .
