Described from a single male taken on
Tamarix anglica
in the
Canary Islands
, this remains the only known record of this species (zur Strassen 1966). Recently, the genus
Mesandrothrips
was recalled from synonymy with
Xylaplothrips
to include 20 species, including
Mesandrothrips caliginosus
(
Mound & Tree 2019
)
.
