Material examined . Specimens listed in table 1 (includes the schizoholotype and a colony identified by C. M. Fraser]. Description of population of the NE Pacific: As P. setacea described above but at least some abcauline walls of hydrotheca distinctly convex, plume heights 2–10 cm , occasionally also branched, 5–9 hydrothecae per hydrocladium, cauline and hydrocladia segments often larger. Only one nematotheca on apophyses of stem segments. Gonothecae larger, flattened, colonies always gonochoristic. Dimensions. See table 1. Type locality. Vancouver Island , British Columbia , Canada . Distribution. Reliable records are from the NE Pacific reaching from Alaska to California. Also reported from Japan and Chile .
