Description of population of the NE Pacific:
As
P. setacea
described above but at least some abcauline walls of hydrotheca distinctly convex, plume heights
2–10 cm
, occasionally also branched, 5–9 hydrothecae per hydrocladium, cauline and hydrocladia segments often larger. Only one nematotheca on apophyses of stem segments. Gonothecae larger, flattened, colonies always gonochoristic.
