Redescription
. Measurements. Males:
3.2–4.2 mm
, females:
3.9–4.6 mm
. Dorsal side glabrous (elytral apical slopes with very short sparse setae), elongate, slightly convex. Body and legs metallic bluish-black, knees usually brownish, mouthparts brown to black, antennae black or antennomeres orange in various degrees, abdomen yellow.
Male (
Fig. 26
). Anterior part of head impunctate, glabrous. Interantennal space as wide as transverse diameter of antennal socket. Interocular space 2.35 times as wide as transverse diameter of eye. Antennae relatively robust, short, 0.6 times as long as body, length ratio of antennomeres equals
12-6-6-10
-9-
9-9-10-10
-9-15, antennomeres short, antennomeres VIII and IX 1.55–1.65 times as long as wide, antennomere IX narrowed basally, dorsally with distinct keel, in lateral view extended and angulate.
Pronotum lustrous, subquadrate, 1.2 times as broad as long, widest in anterior third, covered with two kinds of punctures, fine dense punctures and larger sparse punctures, punctures in the middle of disc almost indistinct. Anterior margin straight (sometimes slightly concave in middle part), lateral margins rounded, sometimes nearly angulate at anterior third, posterior margin widely rounded with almost straight middle part. Anterior margin indistinctly bordered, lateral and posterior margins moderately bordered. Anterior angles swollen with setigerous pore, posterior angles with small pointed tip with setigerous pore, all pores bearing long pale seta, additional very short dense setae visible on anterior and posterior margins of pronotum, and longer but sparser setae also on lateral margins.
Elytra 1.60 times as long as wide and 0.70 times as long as body, slightly divergent posteriorly, widest at apical third.
Length ratio of protarsomeres I, II, III and V equals 8-6-4-9, of metatarsomeres I, II, III and V equals
13-7-5- 10.

Prosternum not visible between procoxae. Posterior margin with two deep narrow incisions (

). Aedeagus very long, symmetrical, parallel, apex triangular, with row of setae laterally, in lateral view slightly rounded, apex distinctly bent down (
Fig. 17
). Only one extremely long thin basally wider sclerite inside aedeagus. Internal sac simple with setae-like structures cummulated along middle part of sclerite (
Figs 31
,

).
Female.
Interocular space 1.9 times as wide as transverse diameter of eye. Antenna shorter than in male, 0.50–0.57 times as long as body, antennomeres VI–X short, 2.15–2.30 times as long as wide, antennomere IX normal. Last ventrite with widely rounded apex (
Fig. 22
). Pygidium subtriangular with rounded apex (
Fig. 21
). Sternite VIII triangular with anterior margin widely rounded, tignum slender, twice longer than sternite VIII (
Fig. 19
). Spermatheca: nodulus with trasverse wrinkles, gradually continuing to cornu, cornu C-shaped, gradually narrowed apically, proximal spermathecal duct wide and almost straight basally, then suddenly narrowed (

Differential diagnosis.
Charaea miyamotoi
is characterized by the robust antennae (antennomere IX of male extended and angulate), subquadrate pronotum, 1.2 times as broad as long and covered with double punctuation, and the extremely long aedeagus and internal sclerite. Males cannot be confused with any other Taiwanese species due to the unique structure of the antennae (all other species have filiform antennae). Females can be confused with some other species (particularly
Ch. pseudoakkoae
,
Ch. shirozui
or
Ch. houjayi
sp. nov.
) but can be recognized by more robust antennomeres that are distinctly wider and shorter than in filiform antennae of other species.
