Holotype subadult female ( MGAB CUM 1730 ), Weinberg, La Parguera , Puerto Rico , Caribbean Sea, 17°53.429' N , 66°59.320'W , 60 m , June 3, 2008 ; paratype subadult female ( MGAB CUM 1731 ), North Star , St. Croix , U.S. Virgin Islands , Caribbean Sea, 17°46'11.4600"N , 64°49'18.2280"W , 52 m , May 1, 2011 , collected during the 2011 UPRM-DMS Mesophotic cruise. Diagnosis . Granulous integument with denticles on carapace, last four pereonites and first two pleonites; seven robust denticles on dorsal margin of carapace, pseudorostrum with serrate anterior margin, a few denticles also on ventral margin, anterior-ventral strong corner; serrate ventral margin of carapace, ocular lobe with five large lenses, long and large siphon. Description . Subadult female ( holotype MGAB CUM 1730). Body size: 1.64 mm ( Fig. 8 A). Carapace ( Fig. 8 A). Granulous integument, 0.44 times as long as rest of segments together, 1.5 times as long as high, seven robust denticles, four broken, on dorsal margin, pseudorostrum with serrate anterior margin, a few denticles also on ventral margin, 0.34 times frontal lobe length, anterior-ventral strong corner, serrate ventral margin, ocular lobe with five large lenses, long and large siphon. Pereion, 0.21 times total length, with dorsal denticles on last four pereonites. Pleon, 0.47 times total length, with dorsal denticles on first two pleonites. Antenna 1 ( Fig. 8 B). Basal article of peduncle 1.07 times as long as rest of articles together, long simple seta and two long compose pedunculate setae on medial margin, middle article 1.41 times apical one, one simple seta on outer margin, one simple short seta and one compose pedunculate setae on medial distal margin, one compose pedunculate seta on apical article, main flagellum as long as apical article, 2 long aesthetascs, accessory flagellum 0.28 times basal article of main flagellum. Maxilliped 3 ( Fig. 8 C). Basis 0.52 times as long as remaining articles combined, serrate medial distal margin with three pappose setae, two long pappose setae on outer process; merus 4 times as long as ischium, one pappose seta on each margin, carpus 1.2 times as long as merus, setose medial margin with three pappose setae; propodus 1.29 times as long as carpus, setose medial margin with two pappose setae, one simple short seta on outer margin; dactylus 0.79 times as long as propodus, one subterminal and one terminal robust microserrate seta, terminal one as long as dactylus length, slender; incompletely developed exopod. Pereopod 1 ( Fig. 8 D). Basis 0.31 times rest of articles combined length, one simple long seta on medial distal corner; merus as long as ischium, one simple seta on medial margin of ischium, two on medial margin of merus and one on outer margin; carpus 1.8 times merus length, two simple setae on both margins; propodus 1.16 times carpus length, two simple setae on both margins; dactylus 0.55 times as long as propodus, terminal robust seta 1.3 times dactylus length, slender; incompletely developed exopod. Pereopod 2 ( Fig. 8 E). Basis 0.86 times as long as rest of articles together, three simple long setae on tuberculate outer margin; merus 2.43 times as long as ischium, one simple seta on medial margin of ischium, two simple ones on medial margin of merus, one seta on outer margin; carpus 1.59 times as long as merus, two simple setae on each margin; dactylus 1.64 times as long as propodus, two short setae and two short subterminal setae on medial margin, two short setae and two short subterminal ones on outer margin and one terminal robust seta 1.45 times dactylus length, slender; incompletely developed exopod. Basis 0.79 times as long as rest of articles together, one pappose seta on medial distal corner; merus 1.46 times as long as ischium, one simple seta on medial margin of ischium, one on medial margin of merus; carpus as long as merus, one simple short seta on each margin, propodus 0.9 times as long as carpus; dactylus 0.33 times propodus length, fused with terminal robust curved seta. Pereopod 4 ( Fig. 8 G). Basis 0.83 times as long as rest of articles together, one pappose seta on medial distal corner, one long plumose seta on outer margin; merus as long as ischium, one simple seta on medial margin of both articles; carpus 1.23 times as long as merus; propodus 0.86 times as long as carpus; dactylus 0.50 times as long as propodus, one simple short seta on medial margin, fused with terminal robust curved seta. Pereopod 5 ( Fig. 8 H). Basis 0.56 times as long as rest of articles together, one short pappose seta on medial distal corner, one plumose long seta on outer margin of basis; merus 2 times as long as ischium, two simple short setae on medial margin of ischium, one on medial margin of merus; carpus 0.8 times as long as merus; propodus as long as carpus; dactylus 0.33 times as long as propodus, one setule on medial distal margin, fused with terminal robust curved seta. Uropod ( Fig. 8 I). Peduncle 0.59 times as long as last pleonite, 1.05 times endopod length, three short setae on medial margin; exopod 0.72 times endopod length, with two articles, one simple short seta on medial margin of each article, terminal robust seta 1.15 times exopod length; endopod with short setae on medial margin, one simple short seta on medial margin, one subterminal and one terminal robust seta 0.52 times endopod length. Etymology . The species is named nodulata from the Latin name, nodus , knot, indicating the granulated integument with denticles. Remarks. Cumella nodulata sp. nov. resembles C. ruetzleri Petrescu, 2002 from Belize ( Petrescu, 2002 ) and C. spinifera Petrescu & Heard , 2004 from Costa Rica ( Petrescu & Heard , 2004 ) with dorsal denticles on carapace up to first two pleonites. It differs in: 1) carapace with seven dorsal denticles on C . nodulata vs. 16 in C. ruetzleri and 12 in C. spinifera ; 2) uropodal peduncle shorter than pleonite 6 vs. longer in C. ruetzleri and C. spinifera ; 3) two setae on uropodal endopod in C . nodulata and C. ruetzleri vs. two simple setae and four club-shaped ones in C. spinifera .
