This subspecies was described based on male and female specimens collected by W.P. Cockerell on
February 22–23, 1912
at Gualán,
Guatemala
.
Cockerell (1912b)
mentioned that the type specimen was a female, but in the type series housed at
NMNH
, two specimens of that sex were found. Both specimens agree with the information provided in the original description but one of them was labeled by Cockerell himself as “type”, while the other bears a label with the word “cotype”. The
