A.R.Sm., PhytoKeys 57: 30. 2015 . = Thelypteris pilosohispida (Hook.) Alston, J. Wash. Acad. Sci. 48: 233. 1958 . Range:— Hispaniola; mountains from southern Mexico to Bolivia (LP). Ecology:— Rare; terrestrial in humid forests, along roadsides and banks; 2450–2900 m . Notes:— Amauropelta retrorsa (Sodiro) Salino & T.E.Almeida , type also from Ecuador , is very similar and probably not distinct; it seems to differ primarily in the very thick-textured lamina, the proximal pinna segments (several pairs, more strongly reflexed), larger fronds, and wider pinnae (to 5 cm ).
