Osbornellus reversus
DeLong 1942: 100
,
Metcalf 1967: 2192
.
Redescription.
Length:
3.9–4.7 mm
. Member of the
O. affinis
group (
Fig. 1d
). Vertex rounded; median length less than width between eyes at posterior margin. Pale yellow, unmarked. Pronotum tinged with brown, weak band along anterior margin. Scutellum light yellow, with weak spots in basal angles. Anterior wing transparent, pale yellow, with brown spot at apices of claval suture, claval veins, costal veinlets and on some cross-veins; middle pair of brown spots along commisural line larger and darker than rest.
Male genitalia:
Pygofer about twice as long as greatest width, moderately projected posteriorly, apex oblong and rounded, macrosetae filamentous and distributed along apical third of pygofer (
Fig. 62a
). Valve ovate. Plates long, with long setae on apex (
Fig. 62b
). Style with apophysis long, tip rugose and truncate (
Fig. 62c
). Aedeagus in ventral view with wide base, straight shaft, truncate apex; shorter than ventral process (
Fig. 62d
). Ventral processes arising at one-third length of aedeagus, divergent, rugose on apical half, apices pointed. In lateral view shaft wide at base, becoming first narrower then thicker, curved caudad then ventrad, apext runcate, shorter than ventral processes; dorsal projection short and thumb-like, base wide, narrow apex curved caudad. Gonopore apical. Ventral processes widely sepated from shaft at base, wide at base, tapered gradually to pointed apices, curved dorsad then ventrad (
Fig. 62e
).
Diagnosis.
Very similar to
O. affinis
, but in lateral view the ventral processes of
O. reversus
are wide at the base and the apophysis of the style is long and smooth. In
O. affinis
the ventral processes, in lateral view, are narrower at the base, and the apophysis of the style is short and rugose.
Distribution.
Known from
Mexico
,
Guatemala
,
Honduras
,
Costa Rica
, and
Panama
;
0–1100 m
.
