Rio Sao Francisco basin, Southeastern Brazil. Diagnosis. Astyanax lacustris differs from Astyanax sp. by the absence of teeth in maxillary bone; a conspicuous oval humeral spot arranged horizontally; hyaline fins usually yellowish, more evident in the caudal fin. It is also diagnosed by having 33-36 perforated scales in lateral line; 26-29 branched rays in anal fin; 6.5-7.5 scales above and 5.5-6.5 scales below lateral line.
