REMARKS:
Rondani (1851: 367)
described
Mallophora cilicrura
,
without specifying either the
number
or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material collected by
Osculati (1850)
during his journey through equatorial South America.
Osculati (1850: 240)
named but did not describe the species.
Artigas & Angulo (1980: 40)
concluded that the
type
of this nominal species had been lost.
Leonardi
et al
. (1995: 148)
and
Mazzotti (2011: 166)
reported the Osculati collection in Milan as destroyed.
Papavero (2009: 37)
reported the
type
material in the MZUN; however, we could not locate any
type
specimens there in this study.
