TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Etruriain collibus ditionis parmensis [in Etruria (= Tuscany , Italy ) … Parmese hills ( Italy )]” . TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂ , syntype (hypopygium and fifth abdominal sternite on two separate slides) ( MZUF : Box 23): Chorthophila [ sic !] Mcq. / hirticrura Rnd., Etrur. [= Etruria (Tuscany) ] App. [= Apennines] / 1219. SLIDES: Hypopygium on slide n° 3 (Box Diptera Rondani 2): Delia coll. Rondani n° 1219, Mus . Firenze / Chorthophila [ sic !] hirticrura Rond. , Holotypus [ sic !] , Hypopygium. Fifth sternite and sixth abdominal segment on slide n° 4 (Box Diptera Rondani 2): Delia coll. Rondani n° 1219, Mus . Firenze / Chorthophila [ sic !] hirticrura Rond. , Holotypus , 5 Sternit. CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Delia hirticrura ( Dely-Draskovits 1993: 44 , Gorodkov et al. 1995: 6 ). REMARKS: Rondani (1871a: 329) described Corthophila hirticrura from two males : “ Mares duos possideo, unum in Etruria lectum a Piccioli, alium a me in collibus ditionis parmensis [I have two males , one collected in Etruria by Piccioli, the other in Parmese hills by me]”. We found only one specimen under the name Chorthophila hirticrura in all the museums we visited. The slide labels incorrectly reported “ Holotypus ”, presumably placed by W. Hennig when he studied this specimen in 1967. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Corthophila ”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Chortophila Macquart 1835 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 65 ).
