REMARKS:
Rondani (1871a: 329)
described
Corthophila hirticrura
from
two males
: “
Mares duos possideo,
unum
in
Etruria lectum
a Piccioli, alium a me
in collibus
ditionis
parmensis
[I have
two males
, one collected in
Etruria
by Piccioli, the other in Parmese hills by me]”. We found only
one specimen
under the name
Chorthophila hirticrura
in all the museums we visited. The slide labels incorrectly reported “
Holotypus
”, presumably placed by W. Hennig when he studied this specimen in 1967. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “
Corthophila
”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of
Chortophila
Macquart 1835
” (
O’Hara
et al.
2011: 65
).
