TYPE LOCALITY: “ Chiliae [ Chile ]” . TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂ , holotype (covered with mold) ( MZUN : Box Bombilidei B 03, 03): Triplasius ornatus Rnd , Chili [= Chile ] / M. Zool. N° 11096 . CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Triploechus heteronevrus Macquart, 1850 ( Evenhuis & Greathead 1999: 187 , 2015: 197 ). REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 69) described Triplasius ornatus , without specifying the number, the sex or the length of the specimens, from material received from R.A. Philippi. Costa (1866: 37) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “846”. Evenhuis & Greathead (1999: 187) reported the specimen in the MZUN to be a holotype .
