TYPE LOCALITY: “ Chiliae [ Chile ]” . TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂ , syntype (covered with mold) ( MZUN : Box without identification label): Thrichophthalma [ sic !] philippii Rond. , Chili [= Chile ] / M. Zool. N° 11108” [not original labels] . CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Trichophthalma philippii ( Papavero 1968: 5 ) . REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 53) described Trichophthalma philippii , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from R.A. Philippi. Costa (1866: 36) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “819”. We also found one syntype in this study. Rondani used the spelling “ philippii ” (p. 53) in his description but “ philippiana ” in the index (p. 98). Acting as First Revisers (according to I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 24.2.3), we consider philippiana as an incorrect original spelling. Rondani (1863) used the name “ Thrieophthalma ” in the index (p. 98), which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of Trichophthalma Westwood, 1835 ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 179 ).
