TYPE LOCALITY: “ Chiliae [ Chile ]” . TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀ , syntype (very moldy) ( MZUN : Box Antracidei A 03, 01): Hirmoneura fusca Phil. , Chili [= Chile ] / M. Zool. N° 11160 . CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Hirmoneura maculipennis Macquart, 1850 ( Papavero 1968: 3 ) . REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 51) described Hyrmoneura fusca , without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from R.A. Philippi, to whom he attributed the species name. Costa (1866: 36) listed a single MZUN specimen (as Hirmoneura [ sic !] fusca Phil. ) numbered “820”. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Hyrmoneura , which is an “unjustified emendation of Hirmoneura Meigen ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 100 ).
