TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro parmensi etiam montuoso [ Parmese territory ( Italy ), including the mountains]” . TYPE MATERIAL: not found in this study. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Hydrotaea irritans (Fallén, 1823) ( Pont 1986b: 79 , Gorodkov et al. 1995: 10 ). REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 81) described Hydrotea scopitarsis without specifying the number , the sex or the length of the specimens, but presumably from more than one specimen because he stated: “ frequens [common]”. He later ( Rondani 1877c: 24 ) considered it as a synonym of Hydrotaea irritans (Fallén, 1823) . We could not locate any type specimen of this nominal species during our study. The MZUF did not contain any specimen named Hydrotaea scopitarsis but, under the name Hydrotaea irritans there are seven specimens (non-types): three males and four females . We leave the study of these latter specimens to a future specialist for the recognition of the type series of Hydrotea scopitarsis Rondani, 1866 . Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name “ Hydrotea , which we consider an incorrect subsequent spelling of Hydrotaea Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 .
