TYPE LOCALITY: “ Etruria [ Etruria (= Tuscany , Italy )]” . TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂ , syntype ( MZUF : Box 3): Chryorhina [ sic !] Hofg. / picciolii Rndn. , Etruria /107. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Criorhina ranunculi (Panzer, 1804) ( Peck 1988: 207 , Belcari et al. 1995a: 18 ). REMARKS: Rondani (1865a: 133) described Criorhyna picciolii from just the male sex, without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens received from F.M. Piccioli. We found one syntype in this study. Rondani described this nominal species under the generic name Criorhyna , which is an “unjustified emendation of Criorhina Meigen, 1822 ” ( O’Hara et al. 2011: 65 ).
