Elomya lugubris
Rondani, 1861
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861b: 213 (key), 218 (description).
TYPE
LOCALITY: “
Paris
” (
Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830: 297
) [
type
locality for
Elomyia nigra
Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830
].
TYPE
MATERIAL: see remarks.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of
Elomya lateralis
(
Meigen, 1824
) (
Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 408
)
.
REMARKS:
Rondani (1861b: 218)
considered the male of
Elomyia nebulosa
(Panzer, 1798)
sensu
Robineau-Desvoidy (1830: 296)
and
sensu
Macquart (1833: 203)
and the females of
Elomya nigra
Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830
as belonging to the same species but, instead of applying the Principle of Priority, incorrectly proposed the substitute name
Elomya lugubris
.
It has always been considered as junior synonym of
Elomya lateralis
(
Meigen, 1824
)
(
Bezzi & Stein 1907: 576
,
Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 408
), never as a valid species. The
type
material for
Elomya lugubris
will be the same as for the name it was proposed to replace, i. e.,
Elomya nigra
. There is no
type
of this latter species in the
MNHN
where the Robineau-Desvoidy’s collection is preserved (Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle 2020). Under the name
Elomya lugubris
in the MZUF there are
four males
and
five females
, and in the MSNC
one male
and
one female
(all are non-types).
Rondani (1862d: 24)
redescribed this nominal species under the generic name “
Elomyia
”, which is an “incorrect subsequent spelling of
Elomya
Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830
or subsequent usage of
Elomyia
Macquart, 1834
” (
O’Hara
et al.
2011: 80
).
