CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Phryxe caudata ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 193 , Pape et al. 1995: 20 , Cerretti 2010: 197 , O’Hara et al. 2020: 346 ). REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 139) described Exorista caudata from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths: “ Foeminam non raro legi… Mas ignotus [I not rarely collected the female… The male is unknown]”. We found four female syntypes in this study. An additional two MZUF specimens numbered “666” are not included in the type series: a male because of its sex, and a female because its label is yellowish rather than the greenish color of Rondani’s original handwritten ones and is in a lower row in the Box, for which reason we treat it to be a subsequent addition.
