TYPE LOCALITY: “ in agro parmensi [ Parmese territory ( Italy )]” . TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀ , syntype (dirty, covered with mold) ( MZUF : Box 9) : Cnephalia Rndn. / cognata Rnd. , / 472; 1 ♂ , syntype (missing head) ( MSNC : Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I) : Spalanzania [ sic !] cognata Rnd. Apenn. [= Apennines ] / Coll. Rondani , scatola n° 4, posiz. H-2 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa , Calci ( PI ) ex collezione Rondani . CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Pseudogonia parisiaca (Robineau-Desvoidy, 1851) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 261 ) . REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 38) described both sexes of Gonia cognata without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Mas rarissimo lectus in agro parmensi , et hujus foemina semel inventa [The male collected very rarely and the female found once]”. We found two syntypes in this study. Rondani (1861e: 154) suggested that it could belong to Cnephalia Rondani, 1856 rather than to Gonia Meigen, 1803 . In the MZUF this nominal species is under the generic name Cnephalia and in the MSNC under the generic name Spalanzania [ sic !].
