TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Pedemontio [ Piedmont ( Italy )]” . TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂ , holotype (head and thorax mostly eaten by dermestids, missing hind-legs, two abdominal tergites in a microvial pinned below specimen, missing terminalia) ( MZUF : Box 2): Merodon Fb. Latr. / pudicus Bellardi, Alpi / 58 / Merodon indet. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Merodon cinereus ( Fabricius, 1794 ) ( Peck 1988: 168 , Belcari et al. 1995a: 16 , Sommaggio 2007: 123 ). REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 56) described Merodon pudicus from a single male: “ lecta a Prof. Bellardi a quo exemplar masculum obtinui [collected by Prof. Bellardi from whom I obtained a male specimen].
