TYPE LOCALITY: “ in planitie agri parmensis [ Parmese plains ( Italy )]” . TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀ , holotype (covered with mold, missing head, right wing and right hind-leg) ( MZUF : Box 5): Syrphus Fabr. / bucculatus Rndn. , , Parma / 218 / Syrphus venustus Meig. , det. P. Láska, 1970. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Eupeodes luniger ( Peck 1988: 35 , Belcari et al. 1995a: 7 ); valid species, as Eupeodes bucculatus ( Mazánek et al. 1998: 29 ) . REMARKS: Rondani (1857: 134) described Syrphus bucculatus from a single female: “ foem . … exemplar typicum a me lectum [female … typical specimen collected by me]”. The MZUF also contains an additional two males (non-types) numbered “218”. Pavel Láska examined the MZUF type material and incorrectly labeled one of the two males as a syntype . Mazánek et al. (1998: 32) incorrectly designated one of the two males as a lectotype .
