TYPE LOCALITY: Rondani gave no type locality in his original description but presumably it is Italy because the work deals with Italian species . TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂ , syntypes ( MZUF : Box 13): Tachina Mgn / noctuarum Rnd ., ♂ / 679; 1 ♀ , syntype ( MZUF : Box 13): Tachina Mgn / noctuarum Rnd ., ♀ , Trident. [ Tridentum (= Trento, Italy )] / 680 . CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Exorista ( Exorista ) larvarum (Linnaeus, 1758) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 122 ) . REMARKS: Rondani (1865c: 213) described Tachina noctuarum without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens and not giving a range of lengths. Herting (1969: 197) incorrectly reported just two males in the MZUF. We found three syntypes in this study: two males and one female . The males and the female have different identification numbers.
