REMARKS:
Rondani (1861e: 25)
described both sexes of
Masicera juvenilis
without specifying either the
number
or the length of the specimens: “
Uterque sexus inventus
[Collected both sexes]”, treating it within the subgenus
Ceromasia
Rondani, 1856
, which is now considered as a valid genus (
O’Hara
et al
. 2011: 50
). We found
three syntypes
in this study. This nominal species was described as “
iuvenilis
”. The spelling “
iuvenilis
” was also used by
O’Hara
et al
. (2011: 210)
but other authors (Brauer-Bergenstamm 1891: 316,
Meade 1892b: 129
,
Girschner 1899: 184
,
Bezzi & Stein 1907: 790
,
Herting 1984: 51
,
Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 204
,
Evenhuis & Pape 2020
) spelled the name as “
juvenilis
”. The spelling “
juvenilis
” is in prevailing usage, and thus considered as correct (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 33.3.1).
