TYPE LOCALITY: “ Bordeaux ( France )” ( Macquart 1835: 436 ) [ type locality for Ortalis rufipes Macquart, 1835 ]. TYPE MATERIAL: see Remarks. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Herina scutellaris Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 ( Soós 1984c: 56 ) ; junior synonym of Ortalis rufipes Macquart, 1835 ( Kameneva, 2007: 416 ) . REMARKS: Rondani (1869a: 24) moved Ortalis rufipes Macquart, 1835 to the genus Herina Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 and proposed the new replacement name Herina helvipes for Herina rufipes ( Macquart, 1835 ) , preoccupied by Robineau-Desvoidy (1830: 727) . The type material for Herina helvipes will be the same as for the name it was proposed to replace, i. e., Ortalis rufipes . Kameneva (2007: 416) stated that there is only a label without specimen in the MHNL. There is no type of Ortalis rufipes in the MHNL (O. Boilly, pers. comm., 2019), MNHN (Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle 2020) and OUMNH (Z. Simmons, pers. comm., 2019) where Macquart’s collection is preserved. Soós (1983: 259) incorrectly designated a lectotype ( ♂ ) and paralectotypes ( 2 ♂♂ , 4 ♀♀ ) from material in the MZUF.
