FIGURE 1
. Localities where
Scina borealis
(G.O.
Sars, 1882
)
was captured during this survey.
Eastern Pacific and worldwide distribution
. Alaska to the west coast of
Baja California
and the Gulf of California,
Mexico
; cosmopolitan (
Brusca & Hendrickx 2005
;
García-Madrigal 2007
). Common in temperate and warm-temperate waters around the globe and known as a pan-oceanic species that can be found from the Artic to the Antarctic and all oceans and at depths of
0 to 3000 m
(
Vinogradov
et al.
1996
).
Remarks
. One of the most frequently collected species,
Scina borealis
was found in 21 stations,
19 in
the Gulf of
California
and 3 off SW
Mexico
(
Fig. 1
). A total of
38 specimens
(15M, 23F) were collected. Specimens of up to
8 mm
in length were found in these samples; a single female with its offspring in the marsupium was also obtained (TALUD I, St. 6). This species closely resembles
S. wagleri
, but uropods are wider and the exopods of both uropod 1 and uropod 2 are reduced to spines in
S. borealis
.
