Differential diagnosis: Cymatodera nigrofasciata is unique among congeners. No other species in the genus has a testaceous to ferrugineous elytral integument adorned with a broad, transverse and piceous band, and the head and pronotum black. The color pattern of C. nigrofasciata is superficially similar to Cymatodera limatula Burke , but the latter species has a pair of piceous maculae on the humeral angles, these maculae are absent in C. nigrofasciata . Description: Holotype male. Form somewhat elongate; cylindrical; elytra subparallel; rather robust; metathoracic wings present. Total length: 8.15 mm . Color: body integument bicolored; head and pronotum fuscous; elytra, legs, antennae, abdomen and mouthparts light ferrugineous; elytral disc with a broad, transversal, piceous band, this band extends from elytral suture to epipleural fold ( Fig. 5 ). Head: HL = 1.8 mm , HW = 1.58 mm . Measured across eyes slightly wider than pronotum; surface smooth, shiny; feebly punctate, punctuation shallow and narrow; frons not bi-impressed; feebly clothed with short, fine, semirecumbent setae; eyes large, rounded, separated by approximately 1.4 eye-widths, bulging laterally. Antennae extending beyond anterior margin of elytra; second antennomere about 1.5 × the size of third antennomere, antennomeres 3-5 approximately same length, sixth antennomere slightly shorter than fifth antennomere, antennomeres 6-10 about same length, eleventh antennomere approximately the same length as tenth antennomere; antennomere 2-5 cylindrical, antennomeres 6-10 moderately serrate, eleventh antennomere ovoid, flattened on distal end. Thorax: PL = 2.04 mm , PW = 1.37 mm . Pronotum elongate; widest at middle; sides constricted laterally, more constricted behind middle; disc flat; impressed in front of middle; subbasal tumescence impressed; surface rugulose; feebly punctate, punctuation narrow and shallow; scarcely vested with long, pale, erect setae interspersed with few long, semi-erect and erect, pale setae. Prosternum wider than long; shiny; smooth; glabrous. Mesoventrite subquadrate; shiny; vested with few pale, fine, semierect setae; feebly punctate, punctations shallow and wide. Metaventrite strongly convex; shiny; shallowly punctate, punctuation narrow, shallow; feebly vested with fine, pale, recumbent setae. Legs: Femora shiny; finely, conspicuously punctate, punctuations shallow and narrow; clothed with long, pale, semierect setae. Tibiae shiny; vested with short, semirecumbent setae interspersed with some scattered, erect setae; coarsely punctate, punctuation broad and deep. Elytra: EL = 5.75 mm , EW = 2.6 mm . Anterior margin arcuately emarginate; wider than widest portion of pronotum; sides arcuate; widest on posterior 1/4; disc moderately convex; apex subtriangular, slightly dehiscent; elytral sculpturing arranged in regular striae; punctuation rather deep and wide on anterior 2/3 of elytral disc, then gradually reducing in size, depth and number, disappearing on elytral apex; punctations at elytral base moderately coarse and deep; elytral surface shiny; clothed with long, pale, fine, semierect setae intermixed with few, long, pale setae. Abdomen: Ventrites 1-4 shiny; finely punctate, punctations shallow and narrow; clothed with short, pale, fine, recumbent setae; posterolateral margins not depressed. Fifth visible ventrite subtriangular in shape; surface shiny; feebly rugulose; shallowly, finely punctate; lateral margins oblique, somewhat arcuate; posterior margin truncate ( Fig. 13 ). Sixth visible ventrite subtriangular; surface shiny, rugulose; vested with some recumbent, long, pale setae; more conspicuously vested on posterior margin; lateral margins oblique, feebly arcuate; posterior margin shallowly, U-shaped emarginate ( Fig. 13 ). Fifth tergite rugulose; shallowly, V-shaped emarginate ( Fig. 14 ). Sixth tergite subtriangular; broader than long; surface very finely rugulose; feebly vested with some semirecumbent, pale setae; vestitures more abundant on posterior margin; lateral margins conspicuously oblique; posterior margin truncate ( Fig. 14 ). Posterolateral angles of sixth ventrite do not extend beyond posterior margin of sixth tergite. Aedeagus: AL = 1.2 mm . Feebly sclerotized; ratio of length of paramere to whole tegmen 0.21: 1; tegmen partially covering phallus; parameres rather developed, tapered apically; phallobase moderately wide; phallus with copulatory piece subtriangular in shape, tapered at apex; phallic plate lacking denticles; phallobasic apodeme long, slender distally; endophallic struts slender throughout their length ( Fig. 30 ). Variation: Members of the type series exhibit variation in length, ranging from 5.5 to 9.1 mm ; additionally, elytral disc color fluctuates from light testaceous to ferruginous. Other characters are constant. Female variation: The sixth abdominal segment of females is subquadrate in shape, with the lateral margins somewhat oblique and the posterior margin truncate ( Figs 20, 21 ). Distribution: The type series was collected in the Central American countries of Honduras , Costa Rica and Panama ( Fig. 33 ). The habitat at the collecting sites is predominantly represented by tropical rainforests and cloud forests. Etymology: The specific epithet nigrofasciata comes from the Latin words “nigrum”, meaning black, and” fascia”, which means band. The combination of these words makes reference to the broad and black band seen on the elytral disc of this new species.
