Type species: Crypteria limnophiloides Bergroth, 1913 (original designation). Diagnosis. Antenna 12 to 13-segmented; basal flagellomeres, usually basal four to five segments, fused into long single segment. Thorax with meron large, mid and hind coxae well-separated. Tibial spurs absent. Wing with Sc ending distal to level of fork of Rs; three branches of Rs reaching wing margin; cells dm and m 1 present. Remarks. This genus includes two subgenera, Crypteria and Franckomyia Alexander, 1936 , and 10 species of the genus have been described (5 spp. in the Palaearctic and 5 spp. in the Oriental Regions).
