Epiosmylus
Panfilov in Dolin

(
Fig. 7B
)
Type
species.
Epiosmylus longicornis
Panfilov in Dolin
et al.
, 1980: 100
(by original designation).
Diagnosis.
Wings narrow, subacute apically; RP with 5–6 branches; RP1 originating far from origin of RP (1/3–1/ 2 wing length); FW medial fork close to but distal to origin of RP; MA with few branches near wing margin in both wings; FW MP pectinately branched with 3–6 branches; HW MP elongate, pectinately branched; FW CuA pectinately branched (3–5 branches); FW CuP pectinately branched (3–7 branches); HW CuA elongate with widely spaced pectinately branches; HW CuP simple; FW A1 pectinate (3 widely spaced branches).
Comments.
The genus is the
type
of the family
Epiosmylidae Panfilov in Dolin
et al.
, 1980
, which was synonymised with
Gumillinae
by
Menon & Makarkin (2008)
.
Epiosmylus
is differentiated from most other gumilline genera by the first RP branch originating on RP at least 1/3 wing length and relatively few branches of RP (5–6). It appears closely related to
Enodinympha
and
Tenuosmylus
. The wings of these genera are relatively narrow compared to other genera (e.g.,
Gumilla
).
