Type:
Holotype
ZMB
Moll. 102059 (
Kilias 1995: 167
).
Type
locality:
Red Sea.
Material examined:
M13: 1 intermediate valve.
Remarks:
Detailed descriptions of this species are given by
Strack (1993)
and
Anseeuw & Terryn (2004)
.
The investigated material comprises of an intermediate valve only, but the characteristic sculpture, formed by large, well separated granules, covering the entire tegmentum surface, is sufficient to identify the species.
Lucilina perligera
seems to be a rather rare species, and only a few living specimens are known (
Anseeuw & Terryn 2004
). It was considered endemic to the Red Sea, so this new record considerably extends the distribution of this species.
Distribution:
Lucilina perligera
is reported from the northern Red Sea and the
Maldive Islands
.
