These Maryland localities occur between those previously known in Virginia and Pennsylvania (
Hubricht & Mackin 1949
;
Lewis 2009
). Many other samples of
L. brachyurus
(many collected by Leslie Hubricht) are present in the
NMNH
, spanning an area from western North Carolina through Virginia and West Virginia to Pennsylvania. This species usually occurs in springs.
