lusitanica
Helix lusitanica
Linnaeus, 1767
: 1245
.
Type
material
—possible
syntype
: LSL (1 spm.).
Type
locality
—“Europa australi”.
Remarks
. Lamarck (1822a: 178) placed
lusitanica
Linnaeus
in the synonymy of his new species
guinaica
Lamarck
(now in
Lanistes
), as did
Philippi (1852a: 28)
, although with doubt, and
Gaudion (1880: 31)
. Listed in
Ampullaria
and as from
Guinea
by
Jay (1850: 282)
and
Paetel (1887: 479)
. However,
Pilsbry & Bequaert (1927: 188)
, while listing it as a valid species in
Lanistes
, stated that it “was based upon a specimen of
Zonites algirus
[
Pulmonata
:
Zonitidae Mörch
], according to Hanley, although Linnaeus referred to a figure of
Lanistes carinatus
(Olivier)
in Gualtieri as illustrating his species”.
Haas (1936: 35)
considered it undeterminable. The shell in LSL is not an ampullariid.
